Interview questions for my magazine

Since we last spoke to Ash Mckenzie he has been a very busy individual. He’s took a real big step and signed a contract with Sound Records who are positive his music will shine at a high level. He has become such a high profiled lyricist that he is becoming more ad more in demand to publish his skills with various music companies.

Hello Ash, how are you?
“orite”

Moving quickly into the questions, how do you feel about lots of companies wanting to work with you?
“I was quite shocked I haven’t been in the music business long, but I’m overwhelmed with the feedback I am getting, I really can see myself developing on a higher level”.
Have you written many songs/tracks that you wouldn’t make public?
“Yes I have as a matter of fact, I’ve written about 5 songs that are quite personal to me and wouldn’t put them out to the public. I do read through them from time to time and improve them if I can”.

What are your long term career goals?
“Basically they are the same more or less, mainly to stream my music every direction I can get it heard. Also to continue to produce and continue to develop my music to a next level every time. Lastly to keep my profile high and try and put the message across as much as possible about what my music is explaining”.

Have any of your songs been published and by whom?
“ Yes I’ve had 3 songs of mine that have been successfully published by Sound Records which is a music recording company based in London”.

Do you prefer to work on your work alone or with other artists?
“Personally I find it easier and less hassle to work by just with myself. If I’m going to do the song writing then I prefer all my ideas to be down there too, instead of the other artists because things can get very tricky when you work with another artist.

What made you get into music in the first place?
“Erm, lots of my peers spend most of their time listening and exchanging their ideas and words about music etc. I was into music at a very small age i used to just write lyrics about what was happening around me and in my life. So from there i knew it was my talent and pursued it and am doing it now and love it”.

Do you listen to other types of music if so what type?
“I can’t really tell you what type of music I listen to other than my own, because if I hear something and I like it I’ll listen to it no matter what genre it is. I don’t stick to listening to a specific artist or genre etc because it doesn’t have an impact and I see my music as a whole new step from other music”.

Do you do a lot of touring?
“Well.... Haven’t really done many tours, but did do one in’ the south east of England last year. I know it was a long time. But enjoyed it and it was a whole new experience. In the future will be doing a lot more tours so watch out!

Do you agree with this statement: “The day you’re happy with your songs is the day you should stop writing”?
“Ermmm... no I don’t really. I think even though you as an artist think your music is amazing and you’ve tried your hardest and can’t do any better, that’s not the sign to stop. You should keep going, keep improving and don’t stop doing what you love doing the best.
