evaluation updated and completed

Media evaluation

Question 1: For my magazine the way I have laid out my text is similar to how it is on a real magazine. Without a real magazine in front of you I think it is really hard to lay things out according to a real magazine.
The codes and conventions that I have used on my magazine are stereotypes. Without reading the magazine a random person could have a quick look at the front cover and stereotype there and then. For my sell line I have used a pull quote, by doing this it catches the reader’s attention more quickly in a short bit of time. To make my magazine really realistic in the diegetic world I have copied the styles of other magazines. The types of things that I have copied are things like whereabouts their titles are spaced and placed on the front cover. Also where the date, barcode and price is on the front cover. I had to put it accurately in the same place as the real magazine, so when I put these two magazines together you won’t be able to tell which I made and which is the actual one.

Question 2: From my front cover of my magazine anyone could stereotype or judge it without reading anything about it but just by looking at the front cover. In the media there are lots of representations that are portrayed on magazines and then stories are made which aren’t true. If a random person had a quick look at my magazine then they would quickly think that it is a gangster kind of magazine for males. They’d be right for thinking that it’s a magazine aimed at males but they should open it and read it before using their own initiative about what the purpose of it is. Even the costume of my character may be judged in a wrong way, because he’s wearing a cap and slightly informal clothes as people would stereotypically say. Also people would think that the clothes he is wearing aren’t relay appropriate for a front cover but instead he should’ve been wearing a smart outfit. But like I mentioned before people need to read the magazine then they will understand that the information inside it does match with the person on the front and is costume goes with it too. A magazine wouldn’t be a realistic one if the person on the front was connotating a more formal look by the costume but then inside all the information is to do with Rap etc.
For my magazine I have reinforced stereotypical images which make people think the negative way, but they definately need to read more to get their views in a straight line. On my front cover as you can see I have a medium shot of a young white male. Stereotypically people will assume that he does music like R n B and hip hop etc. But that isn’t the case he’s a young white male but bases his music on a political basis and look at things in a different way to how an R n B artist would.

Question 3: The company or type of people that would distribute my magazine would be a UK music magazine preferably a political music company. They won’t really be a conglomerate they’d maybe be an independent company but still have links with huge music companies. I think the circulation for my type of magazine will be in the middle somewhere. It’s promoted to the public by being sold in shops maybe used on companies websites to show that this is what they distribute. I think that my magazine will have a TV/radio station, by doing this it will be more successful and will reach a wider audience across the UK. Therefore my magazine will be more popular and will be more known by people. By having more than one type of media it’s more likely that the word about the magazine is around. Having more than one type of media is called cross media ownership.

Question 4: The target audience for my product are male teenagers, 16-24. Today because there is a huge impact and discussion on the political side of things, I think more teenagers are aware of this therefore have a little more knowledge into it. So my magazine will be a clear outlook for them to read and interpret information and also learn new things they never knew before.
Here is an image of my front cover the image that I have used here automatically shows who the target audience are and who the magazine is aimed at. If an elderly person sees this magazine they will know that it’s not aimed at them but it’s for the younger generation. They will be able to tell this from the image that is used, from the type of text and maybe the colour and also the way things are set out on it.

Interview questions for my magazine

Since we last spoke to Ash Mckenzie he has been a very busy individual. He’s took a real big step and signed a contract with Sound Records who are positive his music will shine at a high level. He has become such a high profiled lyricist that he is becoming more ad more in demand to publish his skills with various music companies.

Hello Ash, how are you?
“orite”

Moving quickly into the questions, how do you feel about lots of companies wanting to work with you?
“I was quite shocked I haven’t been in the music business long, but I’m overwhelmed with the feedback I am getting, I really can see myself developing on a higher level”.
Have you written many songs/tracks that you wouldn’t make public?
“Yes I have as a matter of fact, I’ve written about 5 songs that are quite personal to me and wouldn’t put them out to the public. I do read through them from time to time and improve them if I can”.

What are your long term career goals?
“Basically they are the same more or less, mainly to stream my music every direction I can get it heard. Also to continue to produce and continue to develop my music to a next level every time. Lastly to keep my profile high and try and put the message across as much as possible about what my music is explaining”.

Have any of your songs been published and by whom?
“ Yes I’ve had 3 songs of mine that have been successfully published by Sound Records which is a music recording company based in London”.

Do you prefer to work on your work alone or with other artists?
“Personally I find it easier and less hassle to work by just with myself. If I’m going to do the song writing then I prefer all my ideas to be down there too, instead of the other artists because things can get very tricky when you work with another artist.

What made you get into music in the first place?
“Erm, lots of my peers spend most of their time listening and exchanging their ideas and words about music etc. I was into music at a very small age i used to just write lyrics about what was happening around me and in my life. So from there i knew it was my talent and pursued it and am doing it now and love it”.

Do you listen to other types of music if so what type?
“I can’t really tell you what type of music I listen to other than my own, because if I hear something and I like it I’ll listen to it no matter what genre it is. I don’t stick to listening to a specific artist or genre etc because it doesn’t have an impact and I see my music as a whole new step from other music”.

Do you do a lot of touring?
“Well.... Haven’t really done many tours, but did do one in’ the south east of England last year. I know it was a long time. But enjoyed it and it was a whole new experience. In the future will be doing a lot more tours so watch out!

Do you agree with this statement: “The day you’re happy with your songs is the day you should stop writing”?
“Ermmm... no I don’t really. I think even though you as an artist think your music is amazing and you’ve tried your hardest and can’t do any better, that’s not the sign to stop. You should keep going, keep improving and don’t stop doing what you love doing the best.

New Treatment!

Treatment

VEX!!

For my Unit G321 foundation portfolio coursework, I intend to produce a spoken word music magazine, print production aimed at 16-24 year olds males consisting of a front cover, contents page and double page spread.
My magazine will be an indie magazine which focuses on spoken word performance artists, who create political music.

Photography

My print production will require one medium close up shot for the cover, a few images for the contents page and one image for the double page spread.
My cover image was took behind a white wall near to where I live I thought this would be an easy location to get too and the scenery was how I wanted it to be. The character that I chose was my male friend, I chose him because I knew he would be able to position himself for the images the way i wanted him to be. Also the type of dress sense he has was how I wanted him to dress for the images so there was no hassle there about what he was going to wear etc. The costume that he wore was the same for all the images. They were normal dark coloured combat trousers which were baggy and blended in well with the positions he was holding. I wanted him to wear a cap which was very 21st century and again was what I would’ve told him to wear because I had the type of clothes I wanted him to wear.

We didn’t need any props for the pictures so it was all quite straightforward. I took lots of images, but haven’t yet decided which ones I’m going to include where. But a medium shot has to be used for my front cover, then for my contents page another medium shot and then tiny miniature pictures towards the bottom of the page just to make it look a bit different and less boring. For my double page spread I haven’t made my decision but will probably decide when I come to actually finishing it off.
My double page spread is going to be an interview with a rapper who uses spoken word to express things in a political way. The questions are finished but just need to add a few more questions to make it up to a maximum of ten questions. They are about how he got into music, the religious and political side to it etc. Health and safety notes aren’t really essential because we didn’t go on a far location, we were close to home so there was nothing really to take into account regarding safety issues.

Treatment!!

VEX

For my media studies coursework I am completing three parts as part of a music magazine. The three parts consist of a front cover, contents page and double page spread. My magazine is a political music magazine which is basically music that is spoken word. The target audience that I my magazine Is aimed at are late teens, so 16-20 year olds.

The gender is 100% males, you can tell that from the way the front cover is completed. The locations that I picked for the pictures was a plain white wall outside and then two or three pictures are taken against a brick wall. The ones that are against a brick wall can be blended, so that’s nothing to worry about. The character that I chose was my male friend, I chose him because I knew he would be able to position him self for the pictures as I wanted him to be.
Also the type of dress sense he has was easier too and therefore made my job a lot easier. The reason why I say this is because I know the way he dresses and I won’t really have to tell him what to wear or how to dress because he already dresses in that particular way. To take my pictures I only needed one person I could’ve chosen to have a few people but I wanted to just stick to one.
